Front Entry Makeover Reveal

Front Entry Before and After Makeover

Well, this poor little entry was like the lost continent in my house.  It was sooo sad for years.  I guess we would just hurry by this barren waste land and block it from our memory once we entered the rest of the house a few steps away.  But not anymore!  Now I just love the impact my new entry makes you walk in (or out) the door!

Don’t believe me? Here’s the before, builder tan, awfulness that greeted when you walked in the door to our little suburban home.

I didn’t even take a “real” before picture…its that bad! Here is a real before taken after we painted the walls Benjamin Moore’s Stonington Gray.

Yeah, still a little boring to say the least.

So I did what I’ve been wanting to do for a long time, painted my front door black! Now I can be awesome like the rest of the black front door home owners around the country!

I love this plant!  It is snake grass from Lowe’s indoor plant selection and I love how low maintenance and low mess it is.  We put it in Target’s wicker chalkboard basket to hide the plain ol’ pot it comes in.

These lamps were a great find too.  They have brassy/gold hardware and clear base with neutral shades.  I got the pair for $55 out the door from Kirklands during an awesome sale event.

Kirklands to the rescue for some of these great decorations!  The starburst mirror is Kirkland’s Chloe Mirror.  My husband LOVES this mirror too!  I know he does ;)  I think it has a masculine feel to it while still being totally glam.

Of course we’ve got it all decorated up for the season at the moment!  So you’ll have to take my Christmas decorations along with the rest of the entryway tour.

In addition we needed a home base to stash our stuff when we come in the door.  I looked for a while before finally settling on Kirkland’s Crystal Knob Ledge.  It’s really heavy duty and holds whatever we throw at it.  I love that I can add photos on the top ledge and possibly a bench below.

We hung it so high because we have a toddler in the house and his favorite past time seems to be ripping through my purse and hiding my treasures….so for not up high is the winner for practicality!

And here’s the transformation!

Front Entry Before and After

So what do you think?  I thought about painting the buffet black too, but that might be too much black in such a narrow space…for now I’ll just have to fight the temptation to make my hubby paint every door in the house black to match :)

I am having so much fun decorating this year.  This little gem is hidden in my dining room.  I hope to get to share it soon!

  1. It looks great! And I like the introduction of the color black. Snake plants are great and there are so many different varieties. Yours look so healthy! I have a brown thumb…

Ha, I have another indoor plant passed down from my neighbors in the dining room and that poor guy is sad! My green thumb friend stopped by and told me I’m crazy to leave a plant in the hall with no light….so….here’s hoping my brown thumb ways have changed ;)

Your entry looks chic and welcoming now! I love the black door, and bits of black in the rug and on the wall. And that antique buffet is perfect there. Thanks for sharing at Fridays Unfolded! Pinned!
